The Issues

Bill frequently mentions how strongly he believes in serving one’s community. It’s been the touchstone of his life, and it’s been what he’s been doing since he returned to the area almost a decade ago. 

His four years as mayor of Annapolis Royal gave him the incredible opportunity to serve and promote one of the most remarkable and historic places in all of Canada. He’s been a lifelong lover of history but leading a community that owes its very existence in large part to its history was more than rewarding. He felt it was an honour.

Annapolis is at the centre of much of our country’s earliest history, with Annapolis Royal described as the cradle of our nation. When CBC’s television docudrama, ‘Canada: The Story of Us’ left out entirely the contribution of the Mi’kmaq, the Scots, Acadians, Planters, and Loyalists to the story of our nation, Bill went to battle for all of us! He brought national attention to our area and its history – and to what makes us so special and unique. So much so, that Breakwater Studios has developed a new film project called Port of Origins – to tell the story of our region and its pivotal role in the early origins of our nation.

Bill respects the history and built heritage in our communities – it tells the story of who we are. The story of who occupied and built this place, and why we remain here after all these years. It’s the thousands of years as the land of the Mi’kmaq, the arrival of French, Scottish, and English settlers – the birth of the Acadians. In more recent times, it has been home to families that come from around the globe.

All of these people make up our community – this place then and now. He’s running to represent and be of service to everyone – regardless of your origin story or your political affiliation. He’s running to be of service to the people of Annapolis first and foremost. Your support for his nomination as the Nova Scotia Liberal Party candidate for MLA helps him do that.
