A Lifetime of Environmentalism

Bill MacDonald on Striking Balance - Southwest Nova

A Lifetime of Environmentalism

A Lifetime of environmentalism started at an early age for Bill MacDonald. As a child, he was taught deep respect for the outdoors by his family. As a young man, he worked for Greenpeace in Victoria, BC in their early years.

Bill is not new to supporting environmental issues.

He’s made his position clear on a number of concerns raised by voters during the nomination campaign. Namely:

  • Support of a moratorium on heavy logging (clear cutting) on Crown land until the Lahey Report is implemented.
  • Supports ecotourism over development in areas deserving of preservation and protection.
  • Helped establish an environmental advisory committee in Annapolis Royal.
  • Supported reduction of single-use plastic locally and provincially.

Most recently, Bill has helped form the ACERC Coalition – a group dedicated to the repurposing of the idle Annapolis Tidal Power Station into the world-class Annapolis Climate & Ecological Research Centre.

While mayor, he also took part in the filming of the Southwest Nova episode during the second season of Striking Balance. You can watch that episode here:
