A Lifetime of environmentalism started at an early age for Bill MacDonald. As a child, he was taught deep respect for the outdoors by his family. As a young man, he worked for Greenpeace in Victoria, BC in their early years.
Bill is not new to supporting environmental issues.
He’s made his position clear on a number of concerns raised by voters during the nomination campaign. Namely:
Support of a moratorium on heavy logging (clear cutting) on Crown land until the Lahey Report is implemented.
Supports ecotourism over development in areas deserving of preservation and protection.
Helped establish an environmental advisory committee in Annapolis Royal.
Supported reduction of single-use plastic locally and provincially.
Most recently, Bill has helped form the ACERC Coalition – a group dedicated to the repurposing of the idle Annapolis Tidal Power Station into the world-class Annapolis Climate & Ecological Research Centre.
While mayor, he also took part in the filming of the Southwest Nova episode during the second season of Striking Balance. You can watch that episode here:
